The 6,020 m² area has 58 loading ramps, four drive-in ramps and 18 truck stands. This supports high-volume and fast transhipment of goods and minimizes storage time - shipments unloaded from international lines in the morning are in most cases dispatched the same day.
"During the first year of operation in Zdice, we handled over 139,000 shipments. Thanks to precisely set processes and effective team coordination, transhipment runs very smoothly - standard unit shipments remain in the terminal for less than 24 hours. Shipments with hazardous substances usually remain in the terminal for even shorter periods, due to strict security measures," says Martin Froněk, Director of the Road Transport Division at Kuehne+Nagel.
Digitalization, security and a commitment to sustainability
One of the pillars of the effective functioning of the cross-dock in Zdice is the digitalization of logistics processes. The RoadLog transport system is fully integrated with the myKN online platform, which allows customers to place orders, track shipments in real time and receive electronic confirmations of delivery. Thanks to the connection to EDI and the use of digital documentation, the entire process is not only transparent but also highly efficient. "It goes without saying that we also adhere to strict security standards. The terminal is certified according to the TAPA FSR standard, the entire area is continuously monitored by a camera system and only registered vehicles have access," adds Martin Froněk. More than 50 people ensure the smooth operation of the terminal every day.
The entire cross-dock terminal was built according to BREEAM standards and thus reflects Kuehne+Nagel's commitment to sustainable logistics. "We have been monitoring energy consumption in the cross-dock for a long time and are taking measures to reduce its intensity. We use smart LED lighting, photovoltaic panels and handling equipment with Li-Ion batteries," says Martin Froněk. The facility also includes charging stations for electric vehicles, and as part of further development, infrastructure for charging trucks is being prepared.
Road transport is a key segment for Kuehne+Nagel on the Czech market. In 2024, the group handled approximately 351 thousand shipments and more than 205 thousand tons of cargo within the Czech Republic. The main specializations include international groupage, LTL and FTL transport, as well as storage and transport of valuable goods or cargo with a controlled temperature regime.
