The investment is part of a broader expansion of the production site, reflecting increasing demand for medical products in the North American market. The project includes not only the modernization of warehouse operations but also the construction of new cleanroom facilities, the installation of automated production lines, and the creation of more than 400 new jobs.
Automation Replaces Manual Processes
Gerresheimer has transitioned from traditional manual logistics operations to an automated material handling system. The primary objective is to improve accuracy, safety, and efficiency in the handling of medical devices, where traceability and quality control are critical requirements.
The new automated storage systems are directly connected to the production lines. A key component of the solution is the Easy WMS warehouse management system, which monitors the movement of more than 30 inventory items, automatically assigns storage locations based on demand, and coordinates the operation of automated stacker cranes. This enables continuous product availability and real-time inventory visibility.
Focus on Availability and Traceability
In the medical device industry, rapid product availability and accurate inventory tracking are essential. The new solution coordinates the receipt of products from manufacturing, automated storage, and order fulfillment based on operational requirements. The entire process is digitally managed, providing complete visibility into the movement of every storage unit.
According to company representatives, the modernization of logistics processes creates a strong foundation for future growth in the medical technology sector. The project also highlights the increasing role of digitalization and warehouse automation in pharmaceutical and healthcare supply chains worldwide.
As demand for healthcare products continues to rise, investments in automated intralogistics solutions are becoming a strategic priority for manufacturers seeking greater efficiency, scalability, and operational reliability.
